The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
