Music Mogul Sean Combs Awaits Sentencing Following US Federal Prostitution Finding of Guilt

The artist known as Diddy will stand before a federal judge in Manhattan this Friday for sentencing following his guilty verdict this year on charges related to prostitution.

Court Verdict

Subsequent to the two-month court case that wrapped up in July, the jury acquitted Combs of the most serious accusations of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. However, the jury, though, rule against him on two counts of transporting persons for sex work.

Judge Subramanian is now tasked with the responsibility of deciding the penalty. Proceedings are set to start at 10am eastern time.

Case Background

Combs was accused of coercing two ex-partners into intimate meetings with substances involving paid companions. A conviction on the gravest offenses could have resulted in a life sentence.

After being cleared of those allegations, he according to accounts fell to his knees in prayer. His attorney stated that he had “regained his life back”.

Likely Penalty

Yet, the findings of guilt he was given still each carry a potential of a decade incarcerated according to the US Mann Act, which bans interstate travel to facilitate prostitution.

The government characterize the conduct as serious crimes, although the legal defense has rejected the accusations as “backup” allegations that ought not to have advanced.

New Information

Sources indicate that Combs plans to address to the court prior to the penalty is delivered, although not testifying throughout the legal proceedings.

In a request filed recently, his legal representatives asked that he be authorized to show up in “non-prison clothing” at the hearing, just as he had throughout the proceedings when he sported sweaters and collared shirts.

“The sentencing process carries great weight for Mr. Combs,” the letter noted. “He wants to stand before the bench, address Your Honor, and speak in the most respectful and respectful way attainable.”

Sentencing Recommendations

A wide range of punishments remain under consideration, as prosecutors and defense attorneys have submitted proposals following federal penalty standards, although the final decision is up to the presiding judge.

The government is recommending a minimum of over 11 years in prison – that’s 135 months – describing Combs “unrepentant” and emphasizing violence and intimidation that testifiers recounted.

Defense lawyers are requesting no more than 14 months, which with time already served would allow Combs to be released by the conclusion of next year. Their position is that his sentence has already proven sufficient for what they maintain was agreed-upon encounters with compensated companions.

Court probation officers, at the same time, determined that the recommended sentencing range might amount to as much as over seven years.
